President's Message

STAY CONNECTED

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Chesapeake Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. 2017 Post Leaders Workshop

Date: August 20 - 22, 2017
Location: St. Pete Beach, FL

Hotel Reservation Deadline: Friday, August 4, 2017

Registration Deadline is Friday, August 4, 2017 (midnight/August 3rd)

Policies

  • Attendees are required to stay through the conclusion of the entire program.
  • SAME will cover the registration and hotel costs of 2 Post Leaders, preferably someone who has not attended the PLW in the past two years. (2015 or 2016) 
  • SAME will cover the cost of three nights for international Post Officers.
  • SAME will cover two room nights for those scheduled to speak at the PLW
  • The opening reception on Sunday, August 20 is for Post Leaders only.
  • The reception on Monday, August 21 is open to guests at a $50/pp fee.
  • Posts may send additional attendees at their own cost, as space permits.
  • Attendees are required to share PLW content and information back at their Post.

Hotel Registration

To make hotel reservations, please call the hotel at 727-360-1881 by the night of Friday, August 4th.  If you need to make a reservation after the 4th, please email Stacy Humes at shumes@same.org and SAME will give the reservation information to the hotel.  This option is available as long as space permits.  

SAME National will cover the nights of August 20th and August 21st.  Your credit card will ONLY be charged for incidentals, any extended stay and a late cancellation.  Please check with the hotel for their hotel cancellation policy

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Chesapeake Post is offering scholarships to assist college students who are pursuing careers in STEM fields: engineering, architecture, mathematics, technology, computer or related science (chemistry, biology, physics) degree programs. (Health sciences are not included.) Awards are made on an annual basis and can range from $300 to $1000 per recipient. Students enrolling as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in college for academic year 2017-2018 can apply. Former recipients must reapply.

Process: Interested students must submit a completed application no later than midnight March 31,
2017. The Application is available by clicking the following link:

The date for the 2017 Scholarship Banquet has not been determined yet, please check back later for updates.


The scholarship is awarded to students pursuing education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  The student(s) was selected based on their application, teacher recommendations, essay and academic achievement.  In addition to the monetary award, the student will be offered a mentor from the SAME Chesapeake Post as they pursue their academic career and networking opportunities with individuals in the STEM field.
