STAY CONNECTED

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Chesapeake Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Chesapeake Post membership.

The Navy is one of many Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit holders in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed required to meet stringent water quality requirements for its restoration and protection. The webinar will discuss innovative methods to overcome permit challenges. Also discussed are next generation innovative green infrastructure and Low Impact Development (LID) technologies. Military installations have physical and operational characteristics that make meeting their non-point source stormwater management requirements with conventional BMPs challenging. Recent research and pilot projects will illustrate advances and challenges of using new technologies and their potential for helping to meet regulatory requirements.

Who Should Attend:

  • Environmental Project Managers

  • Stormwater/MS4 Program Managers

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about innovative methods to achieve compliance with MS4 and Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements

  • Learn about a BMP database to track the inspections and maintenance of over 300 stormwater management BMPs.

  • Learn about recent developments and advances in Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Infrastructure as applicable to DoD facilities

  • Learn about the Navy's efforts in the Chesapeake Bay and on the West Coast for stormwater pollutant loadings, sweeping efficiencies, and LID.
