President's Message

Happy July, everyone. Hope you are all having a happy and safe summer so far. The Denver Metro Post continues to stay very engaged and relevant from Engineering Camp, to Scholarship awards to involvement with other national, local and community based programs. I believe you will enjoy reading the information contained within our Denver Metro Post Newsletter that details many of these activities and initiatives.

July marks the middle of our fiscal year and I am pleased to report some of our successes. In March we completed the 2nd installment focused on working with the Federal Government, and we look forward to continuing this series in the future. In April we conducted the Federal Industry Day and Briefings, where we had a speaker from the Veterans Administration, Small Business Administration, Denver International Airport, Army Corps of Engineers, Colorado’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), GSA and the Colorado Army National Guard. Additionally, we have some exciting programs planned to round out the calendar year.  Please mark your calendars for an exciting presentation and discussion on 17 August with LTC Andre Schlappe, PE, who currently commands the 244th Engineer Battalion (Army Reserve).  Additionally, we look forward to seeing many of you for the new Denver VA Hospital Tour in September, and during the Denver-based Design and Construction Issues at Hazardous Waste Sties (DCHWS) West Conference in October.  Please check the SAME-DMP website at https://www.samedmp.org for updates on these upcoming events.

Also, for those of you who enjoy golf and would like to support our sister SAME Posts, please note that the Pikes Peak Post is hosting their 2017 Mentoring and Education Golf Tournament on 25 Aug at the US Air Force Academy and on 8 Sep the Frontier (Wyoming) Post is hosting their Annual Mentoring and Education Golf Tournament on F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. These events are always a lot of fun and a good way to network.  Please check the respective SAME Post’s websites for registration information and deadlines, and know that any funds raised directly support the 2020 SAME Strategic Plan Goals for Leadership and Mentoring as well as Professional Development and Personal Growth. Also visit the SAME DMP website to learn more about the 2020 SAME Strategic Plan and our Post’s alignment to the Goals, as well as to stay current on the Post activities.

The rest of the year should be fun and informative. I hope you can join us!
