Mentoring & Recognition
Promoting and developing a strong and lasting mentoring bond between SAME Fellows, Members, and Young Members is a focus of the Young Member activities. We hope that you’re making a strong effort at your Post to link YMs and Fellows at events. Let us know how you’re doing it and if you’re not, please send MAJ Jack Johannes an email for ideas at email@example.com. Be sure to take the time to nominate your YMs for the Tudor and the Sverdrup Medal awards through your Post’s Board of Direction.
A civilian Young Member can receive the Tudor Medal for the most outstanding contribution to engineering design, construction, research, development, or planning. A uniformed Young Member can receive the Sverdrup for the most outstanding contribution to engineering, the military service, SAME, or the nation. Young Members are also eligible to receive other society awards. Deadlines for nominations are typically the end of January. View the Award & Recognition Committee webpage for more information. We are also always looking for a Post and YM to highlight in our bi-monthly newsletter. Please email MAJ Jack Johannes, Vice Chair, YM Council Mentoring & Recognition, if there’s a Post or someone you’d like to see lauded for their efforts in the Society.
