Mission Statement
Improve the efficient, effective, and sustainable
stewardship of federal facilities through research and advocacy of facility management best practices,
fostering facility management educational and professional development opportunities, and addressing current
and future facility management issues.
Welcome Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Facilities Management (FM) Committee of the Society of American Military Engineers.
Initiated in 2005, the FM Committee has matured to include a growing partnership with IFMA (The
International Facility Management Association), recurring sponsorships of facility management forums and
tracks at SAME and IFMA conferences, and as an information source on FM resources and events. As of May
2008, I am pleased to be the current FM Committee Chair and invite you to join me in building on the efforts
of the first Chair, Gene Hubbard, P.E., CFM.
To take advantage of the committee as a resource for finding and exchanging FM information, we will
provide information and reference links on the website; continue to look for meaningful industry
partnerships; offer quarterly web-based meetings/conference calls; encourage our membership to submit FM
articles to professional publications; provide distribution emails on upcoming FM related events and
training opportunities; and provide an avenue for ongoing networking between members.
Our committee organization includes three target areas:
Vice-Chair for Training and Education
Phil Smith, P.E., C.E.M.
phil.smith2@honeywell.com
Vice-Chair for Communications
Doug Sundstrom, P.E., CFM
Douglas.R.Sundstrom@uscg.mil
Vice-Chair for Professional Certification and Partnerships
Patrick McCormick, P.E., CFM
pmccormack@tremcoinc.com
If you have suggestions or would like to be included in committee event notices, please contact me or one
of the vice chairs.
Sincerely,
Dan Geldermann
