Since 1972, The Society has bestowed the designation of Fellow to those Society members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to The Society and to military engineering.
In 1995, The Society organized The Academy of Fellows to bring all Fellows together to further The Society’s missions and goals, and to take a lead roll in support of The Society's Mentoring Program. Fellows also are encouraged to consider giving to the Century House Fund.
The Academy now numbers more than 600 Fellows.
MEET THE MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY OF FELLOWS.

- Each year, The Academy of Fellows sponsors TWO major events:
- The Investiture Ceremony, inducting new Fellows into The Academy.
- The Golden Eagle Awards Dinner, held each spring in Washington, D.C. This dinner honors two individuals - one an SAME member for contributions to the engineering profession and the other a non-member, for contributions to national security.
Nominations to The Academy
Nominations for new Fellows must be submitted no later than September 1 for 2009. The nominations are reviewed by The Academy's Nominations Committee, and recommendations are submitted to SAME's Executive Committee, which then submits a final list of nominees to The Society's Board of Direction for approval at the annual spring Board Meeting.
