Since 1972, The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has bestowed the designation of Fellow on those SAME members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to SAME and to military engineering. In 1995, SAME organized The Academy of Fellows to bring all Fellows together to further SAME's missions and goals, and to take a leading role in the support of SAME's Mentoring Program. Fellows also are encouraged to consider giving to the Education & Mentoring Fund and the Century House Fund. The Academy now numbers more than 600 Fellows. MEET THE MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY OF FELLOWS.

• Each year, The Academy of Fellows sponsors three major events:
• The Golden Eagle Awards Dinner, held each spring in Washington, D.C. This dinner honors two individuals:  one an SAME member, for contributions to the engineering profession; and the other a non-member, for contributions to national security.
• The AOF Investiture Ceremony, inducting new Fellows into The Academy. The ceremony is held just prior to the Golden Eagle Awards Dinner.
• The AOF Luncheon, welcoming new Fellows into the Academy.

Nominations to The Academy

Nominations for new Fellows must be submitted no later than September 1 each year. The nominations are reviewed by The Academy's Nominations Committee, and recommendations are submitted to SAME's Executive Committee. The Committee then submits a final list of nominees to The Society's Board of Direction for approval at the annual spring Board Meeting.
