Internship Opportunities
with SAME's Executive Director
Purpose:
To establish a SAME HQ mentoring program in support of the Society goals and objectives. Young Members (YM) will be selected to intern with the Executive Director of the Society for a 1-2 week period to observe executive leadership and management, and to accomplish assignments that will enhance their understanding of SAME and National Defense issues. To the extent possible, the interns will present their findings and recommendations to the SAME Executive Committee.
Terms and Conditions of the Program:
- Eligibility Requirements: Must be a Young Member of The Society (age 35 years or younger).
- Selection Criteria:
- Active involvement in SAME at a Post or on a National Committee
- Bachelors degree or above
- Minimum of three years' work experience with increasing levels of responsibility
Cost Sharing:
- SAME HQ: Lodging, meals, and transportation expense for individual to Alexandria, VA and return, and other expenses associated with the accomplishment of internship duties.
- Individual's Employer: Salary.

- Establish a mentor relationship with Executive Director of SAME.
- Enhance individual's understanding of headquarters organizations, including SAME, NAVFAC, USACE, Air Force Civil Engineering and other organizations.
- Enhance the individual's understanding of other professional associations, such as National Defense Industrial Association and Army Engineer Association.
- Accomplish assignments on Society and industry issues. Assignments will involve research, analysis and coordination with principal SAME constituencies and SAME HQ staff.

Nomination Process:
Nominations should be submitted at least 30 days prior to the requested dates for the internship.The Young Member (YM) should prepare a letter and send it directly to the Executive Director.
- The letter must be signed by both the YM and his/her supervisor and must contain the following information:
- The desired length of internship (1 or 2 weeks) and the desired calendar quarter in which to serve the internship.
- A statement from the supervisor that the parent organization or firm will continue to pay the YM's salary during the internship.
- A 1-page attachment detailing the YM's involvement in SAME and what the YM and the parent organization or firm views as the expected benefits of the internship to the YM and the organization or firm.
- A 1-page resume showing the YM's education, professional registration, work experience, membership and involvement in professional associations and other community activities.
