SAME members can register for and attend courses for the Certified Facility Manager (CFM) certification offered by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and receive a special discount rate. Through a “Memorandum of Agreement” [PDF] between SAME and IFMA, SAME members can take advantage of IFMA’s CFM course offerings at IFMA member discounted prices.
SAME has a Facilities Management Committee whose mission is to “Improve the efficient, effective, and sustainable stewardship of federal facilities through research and advocacy of facility management best practices, fostering facility management educational and professional development opportunities, and addressing current and future facility management issues.” For more information on the Facilities Management Committee, or to join the committee, click here.

SAME members can now register for and attend licensure and ethics courses offered by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and receive a special discount rate. Through a “Memorandum of Agreement” [PDF] between SAME and NSPE, SAME members can take advantage of NSPE’s course offerings at NSPE member discounted prices.
Additionally, NSPE has initiated a partnership with Kaplan AEC Education to provide review courses for the Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exams. Kaplan and NSPE will deliver “live” review courses through the NSPE state societies beginning in the fall of 2005. SAME members are welcome to attend these courses at the NSPE member discounted registration rates.

SAME has a Professional Development and Education Committee that encourages Posts to offer programs that count toward Professional Development Hours as part of their annual programming. The Professional Development & Education Committee has developed documents to help Posts achieve this goal, including a PDH Certificate, Instructions for PDH Program Administrators and a Program Tracking Sheet for Post PDH Programs. Through a Memorandum of Agreement between SAME and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), SAME members can now register for and attend CMAA webinars at CMAA member prices. These webinars will be offered on a continuing basis. Be sure to check the SAME Web site often for updates on coming sessions.

CMAA/ FMI Survey of Owners
The 8th Annual CMAA/ FMI Survey of Owners focused on perceptions and implementation of BIM among construction owners, including public- and private-sector owners who are members of CMAA. According to the report, BIM usage grew by 3 percent in 2003, 6 percent in 2005 and 11 percent in 2006.

Following the tragic events of 9/11 a dedicated group of public and private sector organizations established an "association of associations and agencies" as a partnership to collaborate on issues related to the security of the nation's built environment - The Infrastructure Security Partnership (TISP). The Society of American Military Engineers along with the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USCACE), the Federal Facilities Council, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and the Associated General Contractors of America, is a founder of TISP. Membership in TISP is open to a wide variety of U.S.-based agencies and organizations whose main purpose is related to the design and construction of the nation's built environment.
