SAME Partners with UND for Online Engineering Degree Program

The University of North Dakota (UND) and SAME have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement to collaborate on a degree program that will serve SAME members’ and the military engineer community’s needs for higher education degrees in engineering.

The UND School of Engineering and Mines offers a unique online degree program that is both accessible and affordable for individuals working in the military services.

  • Bachelor’s degree programs in chemical, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering
  • 129+ credit hours, depending on program
  • New students may begin every Fall (August) and Spring (January) semesters
  • Flexible schedule through recorded classroom lectures and brief on-campus labs
  • In-state tuition fees for active duty military
  • Transfer credits are accepted from regionally accredited institutions

UND Distance Engineering Degree Program

The UND engineering program offers students the flexibility to set their own schedule. Students have online access to recorded classroom lectures and discussions via the Internet.

Online engineering courses mirror those offered on-campus, and the faculty and curriculum are the same. Online students will have opportunities to interact with faculty members who are committed to each student’s success. Proctored exams are available at the time and place of the student’s choice. There is a lab requirement to be completed during brief on-campus visits held during the summer or at a location arranged by SAME.

The UND curriculum is fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the North Central Association of Colleges & Schools (NCACS).

The in-state tuition (available to qualifying full-time active duty military, their dependents, and veterans of the United State Armed Services) is currently $227 per credit hour. This equates to about $29,000 for a fully accredited, undergraduate degree in engineering. Additional fees will apply. Military personnel should be able to utilize tuition assistance, GI Bill and VA benefits to help defray much of the cost of this program.
