Mentoring & Recognition

Promoting and developing a strong and lasting mentoring bond between SAME Fellows, Members, and Young Members is a focus of the Young Member activities.  We hope that you’re making a strong effort at your Post to link YMs and Fellows at events.  Let us know how you’re doing it and if you’re not, please send Lt Col Michelle Gill an email for ideas at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Be sure to take the time to nominate your YMs for the Tudor and the Sverdrup Medal awards through your Post’s Board of Direction.

A civilian Young Member can receive the Tudor Medal for the most outstanding contribution to engineering design, construction, research, development, or planning. A uniformed Young Member can receive the Sverdrup for the most outstanding contribution to engineering, the military service, SAME, or the nation. Young Members are also eligible to receive other society awards.  Deadlines for nominations are typically the end of January. View the Award & Recognition Committee webpage for more information.  We are also always looking for a Post and YM to highlight in our bi-monthly newsletter. Please email Lt Col Michelle Gill, Vice Chair, YM Council Mentoring & Recognition, if there’s a Post or someone you’d like to see lauded for their efforts in the Society.

Communication

Communications is a vital resource we need to develop. With your active participation, YMs will have the opportunity to share their SAME and professional experiences, receive advance notice on YM activities and events taking shape throughout SAME, and spotlight your most accomplished YMs and YM programs. We look forward to meeting and working with you! We use several avenues to deliver this information to you. You can find us on LinkedIn as a subgroup to the SAME group.  Take some time to engage in the discussions or start one of your own!  If you’re a YM, you should be receiving our bi-monthly newsletter. If you’re not receiving it, be sure your email is correct on your profile and contact Chair or This email address is being protected from spambots.
