Tuesday, April 29, 2014
1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT (1.5 PDHs)

Join this webinar to get an interactive opportunity to learn about the Federal Procurement Data System and ask the questions you need answers to!

The Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS-NG) is the untapped marketing tool in your toolbox, so shouldn't you learn more about how to use it effectively?  FPDS-NG will enable your firm, no matter what size, to make smart, critical decisions regarding your future work with the Federal Government.  By knowing what has been procured in the past, this tool will allow your firm to diversify your clientele in an ever more constrained, yet cyclical Federal budget environment. A 30-minute Q&A session will be held after the presentation.

Join this webinar to understand the consequences and cascading risks caused by natural and man-made disasters and to develop a mitigation strategy and recovery plan for mission assurance and greater regional resilience.

In February 2013, President Obama issued Executive Order (EO) 13636 on Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity and Presidential Policy Directive (PPD) 21 on Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience, highlighting the need to augment our existing focus on managing critical infrastructure risk. In response, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the 2013 National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP): Partnering for Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) developed a voluntary framework for reducing cyber risks, to be issued in February 2014.  To support adoption of the Framework, DHS is establishing a voluntary program in mid-February of this year.

This webinar will highlight how companies and agencies can work jointly at the state, regional and local levels to inventory their infrastructure and better understand the consequences and cascading risks caused by natural and manmade disasters and to develop a mitigation strategy and recovery plan for mission assurance and greater regional resilience. A Q&A discussion will be held at the end of the presentation.

About the Presenter
Chris Anderson is a Deputy Director in the Strategy and Policy Office of the Department of Homeland Security Office of Infrastructure Protection, where he focuses on operational integration and policy implementation. A former Director of the National Infrastructure Coordinating Center, he has served in the Department since 2006 in roles leading both voluntary and regulatory critical infrastructure programs.  His industry experience includes five years with America Online.  A former U.S. Navy helicopter pilot, he remains active in the U.S. Navy Reserve, having returned in 2012 from a one-year mobilization to Manama, Bahrain.  He holds graduate degrees in national security strategy and management information systems.

Join us for presentations and round table discussions on sustainability assessment tools and how they will be used in asset management in the Department of Defense.

The Department of Defense (DOD) published the High Performance Sustainable Building UFC 1-200-02 on sustainability on March 1, 2013.  The UFC pulls together all known federal criteria including the High Performance Sustainable Building Guiding Principles (GP), EISA 2005, EPACT 2005 and Executive Orders 13423 and 13514.

This workshop will discuss the link between federal mandates, UFC 1-200-02, sustainability assessment tools, and asset management.  It includes descriptions and how to use five assessment tools: the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) GP assessment tool, the Green Building Institute’s (GBI) GP assessment tool, and Sustainability and Energy Record Cards for the Army, Navy and Air Force.  It describes how the record cards will be used throughout the life of the buildings and how that data collected will support the Annual Energy Management Report required by the Office of Management and Budget.

Speakers from USGBC, GBI, OSD and the three services will present and will be available for questions in this unique environment. Click here to read the course summary.

Join this webinar to gain a comprehensive understanding of the basics of professional liability insurance for design professionals!

This webinar is not only for design professionals who want to maximize coverage under their own professional liability insurance policies, but also for all participants in the design and construction process that contract for or provide professional design services.

Participants will become familiar with the coverage typically afforded by design professionals’ professional liability insurance, as well as key exclusions that limit coverage. We’ll discuss the “claims-made” nature of the professional liability policy and its ramifications for claims reporting under the policy. Emphasis will be given to common misconceptions about professional liability insurance, using real-world examples and claims as illustrations. Our goal will be to make participants better able to make effective use of their own policies and also to assist them in drafting contracts with attainable, appropriate requirements for design professionals’ professional liability insurance. Join us for an overview of strategies to build successful teams to win Department of Defense (DOD) contracts in today’s competitive environment.

For the past decade, DOD has made significant changes in the way it procures goods and services. Many of these changes have resulted in contract requirements that are more complex: larger in scope, size, dollar amount and often geographically dispersed. Although this has helped the government cope with the reduction in the acquisition workforce through fewer contracts, it has generated requirements that are out of the reach of many small business concerns. In response to these changes, contractors are frequently forming “Teams” in their quest to satisfy government requirements and present a “Best Value” solution to the procuring agency. This webinar will focus on ways businesses can build successful teams to strengthen their proposals and resulting work. Click here to read the course summary. [PDF]

One of SAME’s 2013–2014 Focus Areas approved by the Board of Direction at its meeting in San Diego on May 21, 2013, is Transition Assistance to Military Personnel. This focus area is a timely one that acknowledges the downsizing of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps in the coming years and addresses the need to assist service members in having transferable skills for employment in the private sector.

Through the efforts of SAME’s 108 Posts located across the U.S. and abroad, SAME can play a significant role in assisting Veterans with credentialing. Done right, credentialing will help ensure servicemen and women leave the service with credentials and licenses that are accepted by the private sector, thus enhancing their job opportunities.

Under the leadership of SAME President Rear Adm. Gary Engle, P.E., F.SAME, USN (Ret.), and with the support of the Warrior Transition Task Force Co-Chairs Lt. Col. Neal Wright, P.E., PMP, F.SAME, USA (Ret.) and Retired Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Mike Doris, SAME will focus on the following action items for 2013-2014.

  1. Support Credentialing of Military Personnel
  2. Host Transition Workshops for Military Personnel
  3. Highlight Success Stories on SAME Website

Details on SAME’s efforts to provide Transition Assistance to Military Personnel are highlighted in the memo by SAME President Rear Adm. Gary Engle that was sent to all SAME Post Presidents July 1, 2013.
