Student Chapter Information

SAME will host another Student Chapter/Faculty Meeting October 12-13, 2012 in St. Louis, MO. SAME will pay for the airfare not to exceed $500 and lodging for one night for up to 10 Faculty Advisors and 10 Post College Outreach liaisons. We would like to get a Faculty Representative and a Post College Outreach liaison from the same school. The workshop will cover the following objectives:-

  • provide an opportunity for Student Chapter Faculty Advisors to learn more about SAME and military engineering
  • discuss how SAME can best support our Student Chapters, and
  • discuss how Student Chapters can provide value to students working toward architecture, engineering and environmental degrees

      The Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo is the major annual event for SAME. In addition to technical and continuing education events, this national program includes the annual Members' Meeting and Installation of Officers and Directors, the meeting of the Senior Executive Group, the presentation of the SAME Annual Awards, and the spring Board Meeting.       Get involved in Partnering between DOD and Industry to Support U.S. National Security Requirements in the Middle East!

       

      This timely workshop will offer sessions on current trends in project procurement in the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) AOR. Lessons learned and procurement strategies to improve the effectiveness of future of U.S. and NATO planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance programs in the Middle East Region will be addressed.

      The goals of the Middle East Partnering Workshop are to:

      • address impediments challenging effective execution of U.S. and NATO planning, design, construction and operations and maintenances facilities support programs in the CENTCOM AOR;
      • provide a forum for candid industry feedback to U.S. government agencies on execution concerns and to provide an open dialogue with regional government officials and industry members on possible changes in acquisition, field oversight and emerging technologies;
      • provide industry an opportunity to provide technology demonstrations and presentations that will improve the quality of life and reduce life cycle installation and operating costs;

      The SAME Student Leaders Workshop serves as a forum for Student Leaders from SAME Student Chapters to meet and discuss various facets of their school’s Student Chapter operation. This is a great opportunity to share ideas on what works and does not work, as well as fixes that can be provided through the Chapter, Post, or national levels of SAME. In addition, military and civilian engineering professionals will be available to answer questions on the practice of engineering, military engineering, and the business of engineering and engineering support to the Department of Defense, along with general career advice.

      Criteria and Application

      Students eligible for participation in the Student Leaders Workshop must be:

      • Student Members of SAME and either continuing in a Student Chapter leadership position, or slated to assume a leadership position for academic year 2014-2015.
      • Representing a Student Chapter that is in “good standing” (e.g., Charter on file).

      SAME Posts will be responsible for the student’s travel costs; however, SAME HQ will cover lodging and meals during the workshop (see list of responsibilities below).

      What is the Post Leaders Workshop?

      • SAME offers two Post Leaders Workshops each year - one in the winter and another in the summer.
      • These workshops are organized by the SAME Executive Director and HQ Staff to provide Post Leaders with information on best practices and the SAME Strategic Plan and Goals. Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas for achieving the goals set forth in the SAME Strategic Plan.
      • The workshops also provide Young Members a unique opportunity to work with Post Leaders as well as the National Leadership.
      • The SAME President, 1st VP, Regional Vice Presidents and National Committee Chairs are invited to participate at each workshop.

      SAME Continuing Education Courses provide professional development and training with a focus on the DOD market that attendees can’t get elsewhere. In addition, through its network of strategic partner organizations, SAME offers review courses for individuals interested in earning the Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Facility Manager (CFM) and Designated Design-Build Professional (DBIA) credentials.

      Each continuing education course and webinar provides Professional Development Hours (PDH) to support ongoing professional certification requirements.

Through a robust program of workshops, certification exam prep sessions, technical courses and webinars, SAME members can achieve and maintain their professional licensure and solidify their places as leaders in the A/E/C industry.

      Beginning in 2010, SAME consolidated its diverse program of individual workshops into an intensive three-day event offering numerous co-located courses focused on topics of importance to A/E/C practitioners. Known initially as SAME University, the SAME Continuing Education Program allows students to select one or more courses to help expand and enhance their skill sets while earning vital Professional Development Hours that are required to maintain professional licensure.       Presented in partnership with International Facility Management Association, the SAME/IFMA Facilities Management Workshop is an intensive two-day series of sessions for facilities management practitioners addressing topics including facilities management best practices, asset management, lifecycle sustainability, energy efficiency and strategic sourcing.       Engineer Warfighting Workshop

      Held in conjunction with the Marine Corps Engineer Association (MCEA) 2011 Reunion Awards Banquet, the SAME Engineer Warfighting Workshop is a daylong program of briefings and panel discussions addressing Marine Corps combat engineer force structure, policy and training, and recent experiences by USMC engineer and Seabee units in Afghanistan.

      The Peninsula Engineer Conference (PEC), first hosted by SAME in 2009, offers members of the U.S. and Korean militaries two days of briefings on military engineer operations, construction and facilities management and updates on the transformation of the U.S. Korea Command and the Korea Relocation Plan.       Transition Workshop and Job Fair

      SAME’s Transition Workshop and Job Fair connects members of the uniformed services who have recently left government service or who will be transitioning from public service with SAME Sustaining Member Companies and DOD agencies looking for talent to pursue their DOD programs and projects. The goal of this event is to provide interested Sustaining Member Companies and public agencies the opportunity to meet and discuss job opportunities with talented and experienced individuals from the public sector.

      Department of Defense and Federal Agency Program Briefings

      The DOD and Federal Agency Program Briefings present a preview of the coming fiscal-year budget for DOD agencies, the federal government and the public sector. Budget briefs by the program director of each military service and leaders from select federal agencies, a panel discussion featuring the Engineering Service Chief from each of the military services and a luncheon with a featured speaker round out the briefings. Held every March in the Washington, D.C., metro area, the event is open to SAME Sustaining Members only.

      SAME Executive Forum

      SAME's annual Executive Forum includes several topic-specific roundtable discussion groups, each with each group reporting its findings and recommendations at a closing luncheon. The forum is open to executive and senior-level SAME members only, each of whom select a discussion group in which to participate. Approximately 20 senior government officials are invited, with four to five attending each roundtable discussion group.
