New York City Post Briefs West Point on Sustainability

As part of its outreach efforts, the SAME New York City Post’s Environmental Affairs and Advanced Technologies Committee on June 29 held a brown bag lunch at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Anastasia Harrison, RA, LEED AP, and Charles Beauduy, RA, LEED AP, both of Gannett Fleming, gave a presentation titled “Sustainability in Action.” In it, the five core elements of sustainability and levels of sustainability actions were described and demonstrated with examples from work done for Department of Defense facilities. Lt. Col. Joe Porrovecchio, USA (Ret.), F.SAME, of Carbon-Key LLC, who serves as the committee’s Chair and a Post director, described the U.S. Army’s net-zero installation pilot program and the implications of West Point’s designation as a net-zero energy pilot installation.

About 15 faculty members, Department of Public Works staff and New York City Post members attended and received one professional development hour. Alan Zytowski, Chief, Department of Public Works EPS Division, said, “The presentation was very informative. We could use more sessions like this.”
