SAME Jacksonville Post hosted its 2011 Industry Day Workshop and Luncheon with more than 150 attendees including 22 large and 30 small businesses. After a special breakfast for sustaining SAME member companies, presentations were made for members seeking local contracting opportunities. Presentations such as “Opportunities with the Jacksonville District COE” by Lt. Col. Ballard C. (Clint) Barker, Deputy District Commander, USACE Jacksonville District and “Opening the Door to Navy Business Opportunities” by Doug Dangerfield, Chief Engineer, NAVFAC Southeast, Jacksonville, offered valuable insight regarding program budgets, military programs, environmental initiatives and projects listed on NAVFAC Portal under Business Opportunities.

Other presentations included “Opportunities with the Savannah District Corps of Engineers” by John M. Savage and “Opportunities with the Mobile District Corps of Engineers” by Lt. Col. Thomas F. Nelson, Deputy District Engineer, USACE Mobile District. The discussions proved to be informative for SAME members interested in learning more about federal business opportunities, key regional sponsors and stakeholders, ongoing projects and small business programs.
As one of the main highlights of the event, Capt. John J. Heinzel presented Dan Nevins of Wounded Warriors a donation of $3,500. The donation was raised from the SAME Jacksonville Post Golf Tournament held in early October. Other highlights included a Small Business Panel, two technical panel discussions and a matchmaking session for networking and partnering activities between small and large businesses. Small business advocates for the Jacksonville, Savannah and Mobile Districts USACE and NAVFAC Southeast were in attendance.
