Pikes Peak and Denver Metro Posts Encourage Young Engineers
The SAME Pikes Peak and Denver Metro Posts hosted a Young Member and Fellows keynote address and BBQ dinner followed by a U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) basketball game at Clune Arena on the USAFA Campus.
Lt. Gen Michael J. Basla, Vice Commander, Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., spoke to attendees about the importance of young engineers in the future development of our military and our nation. He encouraged young members to continue on in their paths of pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage their younger peers, friends and siblings to pursue similar paths. Gen. Basla also encouraged the SAME general members and Fellows to reach out and mentor the younger generation in pursuit of STEM in order to assist our overall nation in a continued ability to compete within the global economy. Col. Sherry M. Bunch, Chief, Expeditionary Combat Support and Emergency Response Division, Directorate of Logistics, Installations and Mission Support, Headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Colo., introduced Gen. Basla.
The event was attended by more than 30 people, including 20 Young Members (uniformed and civilian).
