SAME Oklahoma City (OKC) Post has partnered with SAME Wichita Mountains Post and Tinker Civil Engineering (Tinker CE) to improve the local community by helping low-income senior citizens rebuild their homes. This effort is made possible through Rebuilding Together OKC, Inc., a 501(c) 3 organization that focuses on improving neighborhoods by making homes safe, warm and dry for low-income senior citizens.
On Apr. 21, 2012, members of the OKC Post visited Juanita Walker to assist her with much needed home improvement. The Post made significant installations and remodeling to her home with the help of many community volunteers and donors including the Tinker Federal Credit Union (TFCU), AMEC, Asset Group, Evans & Associates, Oklahoma Electrical Supply Company (OESCO), Southwind, Konnetco, Honeywell, Elliott Roofing, Brian’s Flooring and Home Depot.
The home repairs included kitchen remodeling; removal and replacement of all exterior windows; removal and replacement of all exterior fascia; exterior and interior painting, installation of window trims, new sanitary sewer line, new carpet, flooring, toilet, weather stripping and grab bars. Additionally, the home's electrical system was inspected and updated with new light fixtures and outlets.
The OKC Post and Tinker CE have been recognized by the Rebuilding Together OKC, Inc. as a critical component of their yearly Work Day efforts. According to OKC Post President Martha J. Smith, AMEC, "Our focus on strengthening the community, teamwork and strong work ethic continually allows us to deliver outstanding projects complete with happy homeowners."
