The Board of Direction of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is recruiting for an Executive Director to succeed Dr. Robert D. Wolff, P.E., F.SAME, who will retire in 2014 after serving as Executive Director since September 2002. The Executive Director reports to the SAME National Board of Direction and to the President of the Society. The Executive Director is a full time position, and is located at the SAME Headquarters office in Alexandria, Virginia. Significant travel is required, including occasional evenings and weekends. SAME currently has a Headquarters staff of 24, a membership of over 29,000 individuals and 1,500 companies, and a budget of $6.8 million. It has 105 Posts (Chapters) in the U.S. and overseas, and has 52 Student Chapters at engineering schools throughout the continental United States.
The period for this announcement is from March 1–April 22, 2014. The SAME Search Committee, appointed by the Board of Direction, will review applications as they are received and will request interviews of the most highly qualified candidates. The intent is to bring a short list of highly qualified candidates to the SAME National Officers (President, President-Elect, Past President and Two Vice Presidents). Once the officers approve the list, the SAME Compensation Committee, composed of the President, President-Elect and Past President will meet with the candidate to complete an employment agreement with the top candidate, or if necessary the second candidate. Following the completion of an employment agreement, the candidate will be submitted to the Full Board of Direction for approval. Following Board approval, the employment agreement will be signed by the SAME President. The scheduled date for the selected candidate to assume the Executive Director position is between August 1, 2014 and April 1, 2015. Dr. Wolff has agreed to provide whatever assistance is required for the transition through May 2015, as required by the new Executive Director and SAME Board of Direction.
