Nominations for the SAME Academy of Fellows are being accepted through Sept. 4. See below for details.

Since 1972, The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) has bestowed the designation of Fellow on SAME members who have rendered dedicated and outstanding service to SAME and to military engineering. In 1995, this group of distinguished individuals was organized into the Academy of Fellows to bring all Fellows together to further SAME's missions and goals. As such, the Fellows Pledge details the role Fellows should play. Today, there are more than 700 Fellows in the SAME Academy of Fellows.

Mentoring

An important part of the SAME Academy of Fellows' mission is to mentor young members as they develop into the workforce of the future. To ensure that the mentoring experience is a positive one for both the Fellow and your mentee, the Academy has prepared a new guide - The Mentoring Scorecard [PDF]. In addition, a Mentoring Continuum [PDF] is available that illustrates SAME Career Development Track.

Academy of Fellows Events

Each year, The Academy of Fellows sponsors three major events:

• The Golden Eagle Awards Dinner, held each spring in Washington, D.C. This dinner honors two individuals: one an SAME Fellow, for contributions to the engineering profession; and the other a non-member, for contributions to national security.
• The AOF Investiture Ceremony, inducting new Fellows into The Academy. The ceremony is held just prior to the Golden Eagle Awards Dinner.
• The AOF Luncheon, welcoming new Fellows into the Academy and allowing for networking among new and present Fellows.

Nominations to the SAME Academy of Fellows

Nominations for Fellows must be submitted no later than September 4 each year. The nominations are reviewed by the Academy's Nominations Committee, and recommendations are submitted to SAME's Executive Committee. The Committee then submits a final list of nominees to the SAME Board of Direction for approval at the annual spring Board Meeting.
