Mission Statement

Improve the efficient, effective, and sustainable stewardship of federal facilities through research and advocacy of facility asset management best practices, fostering facility management educational and professional development opportunities, and addressing current and future facility management issues.

Current Events

SAME FAM Committee Meeting, 24 Jan 2013.

The SAME FAM Committee hosted a web enabled meeting presentation by Ms Erin Shaffer of the Green Building Initiative (GBI) on "Green Globes". The GBI (Green Building Initiative) of Portland, Oregon is a nonprofit organization that has developed Green Globes. Working with facility owners/operators, the GBI has developed an assessment tool to rate a facility in compliance with the Guiding Principles. The tool also helps to inform the facility manager on what they have to do to meet the Guiding Principles. Erin's presentation provided an excellent overview of the Green Globes program. She also highlighted similarities and differences between Green Globes and the USGBC LEED certifications. Several facilities have secured Green Globes and LEED certification with the provided correlation that LEED Silver is equivalent to a two Green Globe assessment for new construction; LEED Gold = three Green Globes; and LEED Platinum = four Green Globes. GBI is working on a new tool that will be released in April 2013.

Committee Vice Chairs provided updates on their respective areas of responsibilities. The presentation and meeting minutes highlighting committee activities are provided in the link below.

The next committee meeting is scheduled to be held in conjunction with JETC in San Diego on 21 May 2013 from 1330-1530.

Welcome Message from the Chairman

Welcome to the Facility Asset Management (FAM) Committee of the Society of American Military Engineers.

Initiated in 2005, the committee includes a growing partnership with IFMA (The International Facility Management Association) and recurring sponsorships of annual facility management forums and educational tracks at SAME and IFMA conferences. The committee is a source of facility and asset management information, resources and events, and as of May 2010, it is also the sponsoring committee for the SAME Sustainability Sub-Committee.

Our intent is to provide an information resource on facility and asset management topics of interest to our members. To support our members, we will provide information and reference links on the website, continue to look for meaningful industry partnerships, offer quarterly web-based meetings/conference calls and Sustainability Sub-Committee activities, encourage our membership to submit FAM articles to professional publications, provide distribution emails on upcoming FAM related events and training opportunities, and provide an avenue for networking between members.

Our committee organization includes six targeted areas:
