A/E/C Industry Credentials

Maintaining professional credentials demonstrate a level of technical competency in a specific field. For service members, attaining credentials while serving in uniform improves your technical skills and increases your potential for promotion. Following your service, the same credentials can help you get a job with higher initial pay.

Browse a list of the most desirable credentials available to A/E/C professionals and learn more about the organizations sponsoring these career-enhancing opportunities.

Search Service COOL Sites

The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps credentialing opportunity online (COOL) portals highlight nationally recognized engineering and related credentials to help military engineers shape their career development while in uniform and upon transition to the private sector.

In collaboration with the Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE EERE) and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS)/DOE Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines project, the Consortium for Building Energy Innovation (CBEI) worked with industry leaders including the Pennsylvania State University and Facility Engineering Associates (FEA) to develop a career map for the energy and facilities workforce that provides a support system to build a better workforce, specifically for the following job groups: Building Operations Professional, Energy Auditor, Building Commissioning Professional, and Energy Manager. The Facilities Career Map demonstrates what possible careers look like in terms of sequential positions, roles, credentials, experience and education/training.  FEA is working with the General Services Administration, DOE and other industry representatives, through an advisory council, to host and maintain the map for public use.

The Facilities Career Map, previously known as the Advanced Commercial Buildings Workforce Career Map, has been developed to outline common paths for moving within and across jobs in ways that facilitate growth and career advancement.  The career map makes it easy to visualize each position or role as a pathway through an entire career. The map is a user- friendly tool that utilizes career information with actual perspectives of professionals.

The Facilities Career Map includes:

  • the articulation of clear pathways for advancement of incumbent workers in the building trades and construction industry professions
  • the identification of strategic entry points for veterans, trades, and other job seekers
  • the ability to plot emerging entry-level and professional-level credentials
