2019 Scholarship Application


The Chesapeake Post of SAME announces the availability of the 2019-20 college scholarship applications. Interested students must submit a completed application no later than March 31, 2019, 4 pm. Application is available for download on the www.same.org/chesapeake website. They can be obtained by clicking the following link: 2019 SAME College Scholarship or on our Facebook Page:  Society of American Military Engineers, Chesapeake Post - SAME Chesapeake.


The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Chesapeake Post is offering scholarships to assist college students who are pursuing careers in STEM fields:  engineering, architecture, mathematics, technology, computer or related science (chemistry, biology, physics) degree programs.  (Allied Health sciences are not included.) Awards are made on an annual basis with a minimum award of $250 per recipient. Students enrolling full time as an undergraduate freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in college for academic year 2019-2020 can apply.  Former and current recipients must reapply . Recipients may only hold an award for up to 4 years. 


Selection Process: All applicants will be notified of their determination in early May. Preference may be given to those applicants who: are already SAME members, have attended a meeting or SAME event in the past year, have participated in an engineering or science activity (i.e. robotics competition), or have participated in an internship at APG or other engineering or science related facility. Past scholarship recipients re-applying for a 2019-20 scholarship must have an active SAME membership.

2019 SAME STEM Engineering & Construction Camp Scholarships

Attention: Rising 10-12th grade high-school students who are interested in engineering and construction careers.


Do you want to work as part of a real engineering or construction project team this summer? These Military Service summer camps will provide students an opportunity to broaden their engineering knowledge and apply problem-solving techniques while competing with other teams.

1.      Air Force Academy, Colorado (Air Force Camp), June 26-July 2

2.      Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (Marine Corps Camp), June 23-30

3.      Vicksburg, Mississippi (Army Camp), June 9-15

4.      Port Hueneme, California (Navy Camp), June 23-29

Deadline for all applications:  March 15, 2019


Scholarship Process: Camp applicants will be initially selected by the SAME Chesapeake Post. The Chesapeake Post will then nominate the campers to the SAME camp selecting officials. Students selected for a camp will receive a scholarship to pay for half of their tuition ($300). The other half of tuition and transportation to the camp will be the responsibility of the student.


Basic Scholarship Criteria: Camp applicants must be least 15 years of age, have completed their freshman year in high school, be a U.S. Citizen, and be on track to attend college for a STEM degree.
