2021 Scholarship Winners!

The SAME Kittyhawk Post is proud to announce our “class” of 2021 scholarship recipients – congratulations to the following students! These students were competitively selected based on their academic record, leadership and service activities, a personal statement of goals, recommendations and their connection to SAME and the DoD mission. We recognized all our scholarship winners during the May and July meetings, invited them to become SAME student members (which is free), and to stay connected with us as a part of their growing professional network! Students with an * are repeat winners or former science fair award winners, showing our on-going relationship with many of our winners. We especially thank our donors – LJB Inc, Heapy Engineering, Woolpert, and the Kolber, Frank and Turek families – and YOU, our members, for the funds raised through the year at our events that make the April Lewis, General Barnes and Sinclair scholarships possible! If/when you enjoy the upcoming golf outing that too helps raise money for these scholarships and more!

Thank you to our 2021 Scholarship Donors!

Thank you to the families and sustaining member firms who have generously donated to our 2021 scholarship program – LJB Inc., Woolpert Inc., Heapy Engineering, the Kolber family, the Turek family, and Ann & Detlef Frank. Donations as well as Post funds, raised via YOUR participation in the golf outing, shooting event, industry day and other Post events, make our robust scholarship program possible. There is still time to make a tax-deductible donation to the SAME Scholarship program – a great investment in our industry’s future! Participation in the scholarship program is great advertising for your firm and contributes to SAME’s strategic goal to “Enrich the STEM Pipeline for the Nation.” We accept any donation amount, but if you or your company donates at least $1000 SAME will award a named scholarship in your honor. Donations under $1000 will be combined with Post funds and awarded to winners of the Post-administered scholarships. Donation checks can be made to “SAME Kittyhawk Post” and mailed or hand delivered to our treasurer Pete Battaglia at LJB Inc. (2500 Newmark Drive, Miamisburg, OH 45342). For more information, please contact the scholarship chair Nadja Turek, nadja.turek@woolpert.com or 937-531-1287.

Scholarships

One of SAME’s strategic goals is to “Enrich the STEM Pipeline for the Nation.” It is the intent of the Kittyhawk Post to grant scholarships annually to encourage students in the Post’s region (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky) to pursue careers in fields related to the Society’s mission - engineering, architecture, construction, facilities management and environmental management/science.  The program is designed to cover all levels of post-high-school education to include associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degrees. The number and value of scholarships awarded may vary from year to year, but our typical awards are $1,000 to $1,500 each with eight to 12 awardees. Two types of scholarships are awarded each year. Below we provide links to detailed descriptions and applications for each.

Deadline to Receive Applications and accompanying files is April 2, 2021.

Traditional Student Scholarships are provided for either students enrolled in, or high school seniors intending to pursue, a full-time accredited baccalaureate program.

Non-traditional Student Scholarships are intended to aid students with at least one year full-time work experience who are returning to school to pursue an advanced degree or to make a career change.

You can submit your application in one of two ways (submitting both ways is not necessary):

  • Complete the application form in Word or pdf, and email it along with all supporting files to Nadja.turek@woolpert.com. Please include “SAME scholarship application” in the subject.
  • Send the application and all supporting files via mail to:

    SAME Kittyhawk Post
    Attn: Scholarship Committee
    P.O. Box 328,
    Fairborn, Ohio 45324

Please combine your application into one submittal, if feasible. However, if necessary, you may submit parts separately. For example, you can submit your application electronically, while someone acting as your reference can mail their reference letter to the PO Box address separately. Please clearly label all documents so we can combine split submittals. Only complete applications submitted by April 2, 2021 will be reviewed. For questions regarding scholarship eligibility or selection criteria and timeline, please contact our scholarship chair, Ms. Nadja Turek, 937-531-1287.

Thanks and good luck!
