Engineer Exam

Basic Information

The Fundamentals of Engineering and Professional Engineering Examinations are offered in Seoul through the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying (OSBEELS), and the Korea Post, SAME. The OSBEELS web site, http://www.oregon.gov/OSBEELS/ , includes applications and fee schedules. Applications must be submitted to the Oregon Board. Professional Engineering Examination

The Korea Post, Society of American Military Engineers is not involved with the processing of exam applications, nor the approval of such applications. The Oregon Board approves or disapproves applications to take the examinations. Questions regarding the approval of exam applications must be directed to the Oregon Board. The Oregon Board provides a list of persons approved to take the examination only a few weeks before examination dates.

The following instructions are for individuals approved to take the PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING examination. Please read these instructions carefully.

The examination will be given in two sessions lasting 4 hours each. You must complete both sessions:

A picture ID is required. The examination is open-book. All notes, tables and other reference materials must be securely fastened with a loose-leaf, report or other binders. Loose, unbound paper and blank tablets are prohibited. They may be cause to disqualify the candidate and void their examination results. Solution pamphlets are provided for your use in writing your examination. Sufficient paper for scratchwork is included in each solution pamphlet You should bring Number 2 pencils to mark the machine-scorable answer sheet

CALCULATORS: Silent, non-printing, hand-held, battery-operated calculators may be used during the examination. Calculators with word-processing capabilities (QWERTY keypad), laptop, palmtop computers, CD-ROM or other mass data retrieval devices are not allowed. Calculators with alphanumeric keypads are permitted. There are no restrictions on programming materials. No electrical outlet is available for recharging. An extra battery pack is recommended. No communication devices, such as pagers and cellular phones, are permitted. Devices or materials that might compromise the security of the examination or examination process are not permitted.

The results of your examination will be sent to you at the address used on your notification letter unless the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering & Land Surveying (OSBEELS) is notified otherwise in writing. Please do not call their office; examination results are not given over the telephone.

Please inform the OSBEELS promptly in writing if you will not be present to take the examination so that arrangements can be adjusted accordingly. The examination fee is non-refundable. Oregon law prohibits refunds to qualified applicants.

Suggestions for the exam: Ear plugs, layered clothing, pillow to sit on and tissue.

Smoking is not allowed in the examination room. Please do not leave your exam material at your table. You must bring it to your proctor should you need to take a break. Do not ask your neighbor to watch it for you. You may not remain in the examination room during lunch. Please do not leave your valuables unattended. OSBEELS is not responsible for lost possessions.

A Reference Manual to remain unmarked will be provided with the exam. You are required to bring Number 2 pencils to mark the machine-scorable answer sheet. No other material including earlier reference manuals will be permitted. The afternoon session includes six available options: five discipline specific (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical); and one General option. Candidates are to select any one of the six available options.

If you were admitted to the exam on the basis of education, via a Dean's letter, the Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering & Land Surveying (OSBEELS) must have on file an official university transcript showing your degree before your score will be released to you. Subsequent failure to supply the Board with a transcript will result in your examination results becoming null and void.
