Members of the SAME Philadelphia Post participated in “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” at the Franklin Institute on Saturday, February 22. The Post’s activity was entitled “An Introduction to Products that are Engineered from Minerals and Gems”. Thanks to all of the Sustaining Member Firms that participated in this event (Ramboll, KOMAN Holdings, AECOM, AKRF, and Verina Consulting Group). The Post extends a very special thanks to C. Lee McIlvain (Ramboll) who displayed his mineral collection and led interactive discussion on the properties and uses of these materials with future engineers. Lee specializes in fluorescent and phosphorescent minerals and provided his knowledge and non-stop engagement to all who attended. Fun fact – Lee’s 4th great grandfather (Samuel Vaughan Merrick) founded the Franklin Institute with William Keating in 1824! The Philadelphia Post is proud to have been a part of this event.
