Colonel Patrick V. Kinsman, PE

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the premier professional military engineering association in the United States, unites architecture, engineering, construction (A/E/C), facility management and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors to prepare for—and overcome—natural and man-made disasters, and to improve security at home and abroad.  Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, SAME provides its more than 27,000 members extensive opportunities for training, education and professional development through a robust offering of conferences, workshops, networking events and publications. With a membership that includes recent service academy graduates and retired flag officers, project managers and corporate executives, Department of Defense civilians, private-sector experts and everyone in between, SAME is bridging the gaps between critical stakeholders to advance the field of military engineering and help secure our nation.

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.  Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Hampton Roads Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Hampton Roads Post membership.

Title: Chesapeake Integrated BioEnergy Complex (CIBC)
Presenter: Ray Crabbs

Scope: The Hampton Roads region of Virginia will soon have the opportunity to transform all of its waste stream to pure ‘drop-in’ diesel fuel, F-T wax, green electricity and aggregate as a result of the establishment of a cutting-edge series of technology in Chesapeake. This will all be done with less than 5% residual remaining. All the technologies that will be placed ‘in-train’ with one another are proven and will perform the function called of them.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understanding of the CIBC facility and the proven systems that will create valuable products from 97% of all waste materials brought to the site. It provides an in depth look at the integrated eco-industrial park dedicated to the processing, recycling and re-use of the complete municipal solid waste stream and other commercial and industrial wastes.
2. Overview of the infrastructure, advanced planning and engineering design and development needed to support the CIBC.
3. Review a case study of how the CIBC facility works and summarize the anticipated revenue stream of the CIBC facility.
