The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the premier professional military engineering association in the United States, unites architecture, engineering, construction (A/E/C), facility management and environmental entities and individuals in the public and private sectors to prepare for—and overcome—natural and man-made disasters, and to improve security at home and abroad.  Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, SAME provides its more than 27,000 members extensive opportunities for training, education and professional development through a robust offering of conferences, workshops, networking events and publications. With a membership that includes recent service academy graduates and retired flag officers, project managers and corporate executives, Department of Defense civilians, private-sector experts and everyone in between, SAME is bridging the gaps between critical stakeholders to advance the field of military engineering and help secure our nation.

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.  Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Hampton Roads Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Hampton Roads Post membership.

Voluntary Covid-19 Vaccination Encouragement:

The Society of American Military Engineers, Hampton Roads Post, is returning to in-person monthly meetings, forums and sessions and is encouraging voluntary Covid-19 vaccination of all members who seek to participate in these in-person events. In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia and United States CDC guidelines, SAME seeks to provide and maintain a gathering place and workplace that is free of known hazards and the Hampton Roads Board strongly encourages all members and guests to receive this vaccination to minimize the risk of this infectious disease, especially in light of the new Delta and Lambda variants. This encouragement is in concert with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Commonwealth of Virginia Covid-19 Task Force and with local Hampton Roads health officials. Members and guests are encouraged to obtain any Covid vaccination wherever they choose.

Science & Medicine Academy: 2021-2022 Volunteer Opportunity

Looking to be a positive role model? SAME Hamptons Roads is seeking mentors in support of the Deep Creek HS Science Academy by OCTOBER 1st for three high school seniors! We are looking for (2) mentors in the Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering field and (1) in the field of Biomedical Engineering.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Science and Medicine Academy (SMA) is designed for Chesapeake students who may want to pursue a career in one of the vast fields of science or medicine and/or who demonstrate a particular interest in science, engineering or medicine. The goal of the academy is to enhance students’ attitudes, skills, and introduce awareness of the vast opportunities available in the fields of science, engineering and medical careers. The philosophy of the academy is to create a learning atmosphere in which students connect what is learned in the classroom to field experiences. The academy provides a small student-centered learning atmosphere which leads to student success. The focus is to provide each student with rigorous academic coursework to compete in post-secondary institutions. Click here for more information!
