2018-2019 Scholarship Information
The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), Hampton Roads Post intends to award multiple $500 – $3,000 scholarships to Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, Interior Design and Construction Management Students for the 2018-2019 school year.
Applicants must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Mathematics degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall term of 2018. For other STEM degree programs, please include an explanation of how the degree will align with the goals of SAME. All applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis) to be eligible to apply. No scholarship will be awarded for those pursuing an associate; second undergraduate or graduate school degree. Students attending a community or junior college must be enrolled in a program of studies designed to allow the student to transfer directly into a four-year program. Applicants who receive an appointment to one of the U.S. Military Academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or are awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education are not eligible to receive funds from this program. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, room and board, books, and lab fees.
There is no requirement for the student or parent to be part of a SAME Post. However, preference will be given to students who are members of a SAME Student Post or whose parents, guardians, or sponsors are members of SAME. Sponsors must provide a letter of recommendation as part of the application package. For a list of sustaining member companies, and student SAME applications please refer to our website (http://samehr.com/).
Our intent is to target scholarship awards to Hampton Roads high school students and college students attending College / Universities throughout Virginia; however this is not a requirement and The Post reserves the right to offer scholarships to any qualified candidates.
Scholarships will be presented at our June 20, 2018 luncheon.
Application forms are available upon request. Contact Mr. Efram Fuller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The scholarship application evaluation criteria are attached as an appendix to the application form. The completed application, including transcripts, must be emailed or postmarked no later than April 30, 2018. Applicants are encouraged to go paperless and submit a scanned signed copy to email@example.com. Sustaining Member of the Month
One of our Sustaining Member firms is spotlighted each month, given the opportunity to set up a tabletop booth at the monthly meeting, and be recognized by the President at the start of each meeting. A representative of the firm is also invited to give a short overview of the firm at the luncheon.
The designated Sustaining Member of the Month also provides a summary of their firm’s expertise and services for the military engineering community to be printed in the newsletter. We ask that the Sustaining Member of the Month bring a raffle prize valued at approximately $50 to the luncheon for our Education and Mentoring raffle drawing. If you are interested in participating, please contact CindyNash.
Please note that with your firm’s Sustaining Membership, SIX (6) of your employees can be designated as sustaining members (includes two Young Members).
Please go to the National SAME web site and review your company status under Membership.
