Post President's Corner

CAPT Pat Dugan, USCG

Hello Hampton Roads Post!

I hope some of you enjoyed touring the Courthouse last month, and thanks go out to Melissa Waefler for setting that up. We often focus on new construction, but it’s good to turn around and look at completed buildings a few years later. Are they being used as intended? Are the “bright ideas” that we put in place actually working? What are the annual maintenance and utility costs? Are the occupants happy with the layout, or did we miss something which can be counted as a lesson learned? I appreciate the City allowing us to come in and take a look.

This month we will have our annual Scholarship presentations, awards ceremony, and our Change of Watch as we induct a new SAME Hampton Roads Board of Directors. First, congratulations to the scholarship winners! Efram Fuller and his scholarship board have gone out of their way to ensure we are providing scholarships to deserving STEM students in the Hampton Roads area. Also, congratulations to Mike Pampalone of Jacobs for taking the reins from me and to the rest of the incoming Board! I hope that you’ll join me at the Westin on the 20th for presentations and the induction of the new Post President and new board.

All my best,
Pat Dugan
Commanding Officer, USCG Facilities Design and Construction Center

Post President's Corner
Letter from CAPT Pat Dugan, President (2017-2018)

CAPT Pat Dugan, USCG

Hello Hampton Roads Post!

We had a tremendous Small Business Outreach + Industry Day on March 21-22. I’d like to again thank all the volunteers who made that day a reality as it has become a staple of excellence for our Post. For those who missed it (why?), we combined forces with the Peninsula Post, Central VA Post, and Coastal Carolina Post to bring in 34+ small businesses, 350+ people, USACOE Industry Day, and speakers from other governmental agencies such as the Veteran’s Administration, NAVFAC, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Brigadier General Butch Graham opened the USACOE Industry Day for us, and we opened the second day with Sal Nodjomian, the SAME National President. It was just an incredible chance for professional exchange and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Our next event is the monthly meeting at the Virginia Beach Westin on April 18th. Doors open at 1130 and we start at noon. Value proposition: good food, good company, an interesting topic and 1 continuing education credit all for a low price! Tough to beat that. I hope to see you there and I wish you an enjoyable spring in Hampton Roads.

Best regards,
Pat Dugan
Commanding Officer, USCG Facilities Design and Construction Center
