STAY CONNECTED

The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Houston Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Houston Post membership.

Description:

Our guest speaker will be Liza Kirk from Forterra. Ms Kirk's presentation will be:

"Engineering Professionalism and Ethics – An Encyclopedia of Ethical Failures"

What do Ethics and Professionalism mean to Engineers? Is it the same for the general public? This interactive presentation will review these differences and discuss the current Texas Board of Professional Engineers requirements for licensure. Also included is discussion of actual cases in Texas of deception/misrepresentation, crimes of omission, misleading practices, cases involving detriment to the public’s safety, and blatant disregard for authority. Learn from these great examples of what NOT to do.

Certificates will be provided at the end of the presentation documenting the Ethics PDH..

Note: Walk-ins are welcome, but will be required to pay non-member prices ($55) except public agency representatives, whose price remains the same ($10). Please register by noon September 6th to avoid $10 late registration fee.
