Consider volunteering with us at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies!!
- Weather Dependent, volunteers will meet at the Cemetery at 12:30 on Friday, May 24th (the Friday before Memorial Day). Volunteer duties will consist of raising the flags, cleaning headstones, and any other miscellaneous tasks that cemetery may request our assistance with. Volunteers may contribute as much time as they like (typically the flags are raised first, completed within an hour, followed by other activities).
-Anyone can volunteer. However, we need to have a list of names with contact information in advance. Sometimes (including last fall!), the Director will adjust the date/time of duty based on the weather forecast, particularly if strong winds or lightning are forecast.
The week after Memorial Day (May 27th) additional volunteers are needed to take down and stow the flags. This date is typically not determined by the Director until right up to Memorial Day based on weather as the flags need to be put away relatively dry. However, some volunteers will be needed that week as well.

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) seeks creative and innovative problem solvers to participate in the inaugural Leader Development Program (LDP). Developed with support from the SAME Foundation, LDP identifies and cultivates talent from within the SAME membership who seek to advance their leadership skills to address the nation’s grand challenges. The target participant is an enthusiastic, mid-career professional dedicated to the mission and strategic direction of the Society. Members of SAME with at least one-year membership in the Society as of December 21, 2018, and with at least five years of progressive professional experience may apply. One applicant will be selected from each Region.
The program runs from May 2019 through May 2020 and includes over 80 hours of training and reading assignments. The SAME Foundation is funding the program due to the generous funding of individual members, sustaining members, partners and friends of the Society. Participants will have their JETC 2019 and JETC 2020 registration, travel, lodging, associated travel expenses, training and administrative costs paid by the SAME Foundation. Salary, books and all other costs are paid for by the candidate or candidate’s organization.
Applications for the LDP need to be submitted to Scott Nesbit by Friday, December 21. Instructions for the applications and additional information on the program can be found HERE.
