Title:   USACE Norfolk Districts Mission in the Commonwealth

Presenters:   Colonel Patrick V. Kinsman – USACE Norfolk District 

Scope:  COL Patrick Kinsman will provide insights into the US Army Corps of Engineers diverse mission set in support of the Nation, Commonwealth of Virginia and the local communities. The presentation will provide a brief initial overview of USACE with most of the time focused on USACE efforts in the Commonwealth specifically on the navigation mission and the deepening of Norfolk Harbor and Channels to 55 feet (+) as well as the efforts to work with the communities to address Sea Level Rise. The presentation will also include an overview on the results of the Norfolk Coastal Storm Risk Management Study (CSRM) and how that may apply to future efforts in Coastal Virginia.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the broad mission set of the US Army Corps of Engineers
2. Understand the authorities and processes required to accomplish a civil works project.
3. Understand how civil works process was applied to local projects - Norfolk Harbor Deepening and CSRM studies
4. Provide an update on the plans and progress for the Norfolk Harbor Deepening and the CSRM
