Title: Ethical Evolutions: How Professional Rules Apply to the Engineer’s Role in Innovative and Non-Traditional Project Delivery Contexts
Presenter: Betsy Ennis Dulin, Esq., PE
Scope: As project delivery mechanisms and associated business relationships evolve and change, so does the role of the engineer in planning, designing, and implementing projects. In that changing landscape, state boards and other organizations charged with interpreting and applying rules of professional conduct, and courts that use those rules as a source of industry standards, have been asked to consider the meaning and impact of the rules in new contexts. This presentation will explore and encourage attendees to think critically about those scenarios and will provide several case studies involving recent projects and events.
- Have a better understanding of how non-traditional project delivery methods raise new ethical issues for engineers.
- Be informed on how various decision-making bodies have addressed the intersection of innovations in project delivery and rules of professional conduct.
- Understand the enhanced importance of project communications in such situations.
- Be better positioned to assess ethical issues in a non-traditional project context on behalf of themselves and their organizations.
