We are honored to have as our E-Week speaker, Wendell L. “Buddy” Barnes, P.E., F, SAME, our 100th National SAME Past President, guiding SAME into our second century.
Buddy’s Engineering Career spans over 50 years in the US Army Corps of Engineers, local government and private industry. Buddy is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Corps of Engineers with numerous troop assignments and Corps of Engineer District experience in Viet Nam, Korea, Europe and the US. From Platoon leader in Viet Nam, to Training soldiers at Fort Leonard Wood, then constructing the locks on the Tenn-Tom Waterway, then leading the recovery from Hurricane Frederic, on to S-3, 2nd Engineers in Korea and then Deputy District Engineer Savannah; his distinguished career focused on mentoring staff and producing outstanding infrastructure. Buddy’s last military assignment was right here in Vicksburg where he was the Advisor to the 168th Engineer Battalion, 1985-1988 and a member of the Vicksburg Post. After his Army career he joined the City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering, in his 10 years with the city, he was the Airport Engineer and later the Deputy Director for Engineering, Construction and Real Estate Group and Director, Greater Houston Wastewater Program. Upon leaving the City he entered private consulting. He is currently a Senior Operations Manager for 5 Engineering in Houston, Texas.
