February Luncheon Program - Task Force Mosul Dam and USACE’s Efforts to Repair the Most Dangerous Dam in the World

Register Here!

DATE: Tuesday, February 15th

Presented By:  Mr. Steve Kelley, P.E., JBLM Area Engineer, Seattle District, USACE
The presentation will provide an overview of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 3 year effort to repair Mosul Dam where they served as “The Engineer” for a contract between Iraq’s Ministry of Water Resources and an Italian firm Trevi sPA.  The dam was constructed in the early 1980’s on a foundation of Gypsum and Anhydrate causing continuous degradation.  After multiple wars, ISIS, and lack of resources; the US was very concerned that adequate maintenance had not been performed on the dam and posed an threat of failure which would impact the 4 million people living downstream along the Tigris River and could de-stabilize the entire Middle East.
