SAME Foundation – 2022 Annual Appeal

YPs/Fellows Fundraising Challenge

The SAME Foundation is launching an exciting fundraising campaign for 2022, the Young Professionals/Fellows Challenge. Whether you are a Young Professional, a Fellow, or just someone who cares about the future engineering leaders of our Society and our nation, we want you to participate between now and Dec. 31, 2022. Make your donation and make your voice heard on who you think will be more responsible for the engineering leaders of the future!

In fact, if we raise $500,000 by year-end, there are donors standing by that have agreed to match $5,000 each with the goal that we can reach a full $1 million!

Will it be Young Professionals or Fellows who lead the way…those who will grow into the future leaders, or those who will mentor and guide them in their journey?

SAME Young Professional COI
SAME Foundation – 2022 Fundraising Campaign

September 15, 2022

Dear Fellow SAME Members,

Our Society takes extraordinary pride in investing in the future of engineering—and the SAME Foundation is the philanthropic mechanism that makes it happen.

Through your generous support, the SAME Foundation is able to provide funding for SAME’s Engineering & Construction Camps, the SAME Leader Development Program, and the recently created Indigenous STEM Program. To continue supporting these important programs and expand the Society’s efforts for the future of engineering, we are launching our most exciting individual giving campaign ever…and you have an opportunity to be part of it!

Paraphrasing from the likes of Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, and The Rock, competition is a fantastic thing and drives you to new heights. This year’s campaign pits two of our Society’s most active and engaged groups, Fellows and Young Professionals, to see who can “Love Their Foundation More.”

Unlike other competitions involving arduous work, practice, and possibly calorie counting, we’ve made ours super easy. Simply make a donation, then select “Fellow” or “Young Professional” for the category you represent or support. Even if you are not yet a Fellow or maybe a little too seasoned to be a “YP” we still want you to choose which group you would like your donation to count toward.

We will provide updates to let you know how each group is doing and appropriately celebrate in 2023. Because even though one side will win the competition, in the end it is really the future of engineering that wins—and it is thanks to your generous contributions!

That’s not all. To make this campaign even more exciting, the SAME Foundation is coupling the Fellows/YPs Competition with a $5K Matching Challenge. Already more than two dozen members have each committed to donate $5,000 if the rest of the Society raises $500,000 by Dec. 31, 2022. In other words, your contribution to fostering engineering leadership for the nation will be multiplied if we meet our fundraising goal!

The SAME Foundation receives financial ratings at the highest level; this means the vast majority of donations go directly to supporting programs, with very little to overhead. Thank you in advance for your participation in this year’s campaign. Now let’s have some fun!

Warm regards,

– Sal Nodjomian, P.E., F.SAME, SAME Foundation Fundraising Chair

$5K Matching Challenge Donors

These esteemed leaders each have committed to donate $5,000 if the Society overall raises $500,000 by Dec. 31, 2022, and we continue to bring on more matching donors as well. Join the incredible generosity of our $5K Matchers by making a financial contribution to the SAME Foundation (my.same.org/donate) and help unlock their investment. Any amount will help us reach our goal—and help your Society lead the way in fostering engineering leadership for the nation.

Developing Tomorrow’s Engineering Leaders, Today

America faces a complex national security landscape. Infrastructure challenges, disruptive geopolitcal events, resource challenges, and global threats to the balance of power increase in frequency and severity every year. To assure our nation’s safety and prosperity into the future, skilled and dedicated engineering leaders capable of meeting these dynamic challenges head-on will play a critical role.

The SAME Foundation, since its establishment in 2016, has invested in programs focused directly on developing the next generation of military, government, and industry leaders who will strengthen the engineering profession for tomorrow.

Through its support of STEM outreach, youth mentoring, and professional training and development—and because of the generous contribtuions of people like you—the SAME Foundation is meeting its compelling purpose to Foster Engineering Leadership for the Nation.

Making a Difference, Together

As SAME moves forward in its second century, the SAME Foundation through your support will lead the way in helping develop the next generation of engineering leaders for our nation. We can make a lasting difference by providing Society members, America’s youth, veterans, and others in the engineering community with unmatched opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.

The camp mentors and cadets were extremely supportive throughout the week; they have definitely provided me with new ideas that I appreciate and expect will influence my future growth. From the moment I was accepted to this camp, to the moment I left the grounds, I was in excellent hands!

Leader Development Program

The SAME Leader Development Program nurtures leadership skills in high-potential mid-career members through a dynamic curriculum of speakers, book discussions, and group exercises. Funded entirely by the SAME Foundation, the training culminates with a Utilization Project to advance a significant engineering issue.

Camps Mentoring Program

SAME’s Engineering & Construction Camps for over 20 years have helped produce thousands of inspired STEM leaders. Now through a new Camps Mentoring Program, the SAME Foundation will enable even more young professionals, servicemembers, cadets, and teachers the chance to give back (and grow) as camp mentors.

Indigenous STEM Program

Designed as a framework for SAME Posts to engage American Indian/Alaska Native communities in STEM, the “We Must Go to Them” project (created through the Leader Development Program) was selected for a grant from the United Engineering Foundation in 2021. The SAME Foundation has furthered its involvement in this important effort by underwriting the cost-match required to conduct pilot activities in Alaska, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Florida.

Investing in Their Future, and Ours

By donating to the SAME Foundation, you are helping expand programs that directly invest in the military, government, and industry engineering leaders of tomorrow. Through your support, we can do our part to ensure that the strength and resilience of America’s engineering community remains a constant reminder of our nation’s technological advantage on the world’s stage.

America’s future is bright. Let’s help make it brighter!
