Savannah Post Get Involved

About the Post

The SAME Savannah Post was originally founded on March 8, 1946.  Efforts to create the Post were led by Lt. Colonel G. B. Troland, the Savannah District’s District Engineer at the time and Colonel W.B. Higgins.  The original charter for the Savannah, Georgia Post of The Society of American Military Engineers, was signed by 77 members and was approved by the 1946 Constitution and By-Laws Committee comprised of Lt. Colonel Hue Thomas, Chairman, Mr. J.B. Jones, Mr. P.C. Seawright, and Mr. C.R. Woolery. Of intrigue, the original correspondence documents hint at numerous efforts/failures to establish a Savannah Post prior to the 1946 charter as indicated in a remark in a letter by Lt. Colonel G. B. Troland to Colonel J. Franklin Bell, Acting Executive Secretary for SAME HQ in 1946, “The outlook is not bright for a large membership, but it is possible that if we plant an acorn, an oak will grow.

Today, the SAME Savannah Post boasts more than 600 members and is one of three Large Posts to increase membership size in 2020, growing from 602 to 615.

There are great networking and learning opportunities to advance your career and your company in our industry. The Savannah Post hosts monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list. The Savannah Post is supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer. If you have any questions, please visit our Board of Directors page and contact any person on the leadership you wish.  We’d love to hear from you.
