Poplar Island Restoration

Please join SAME Chesapeake on April 16, 2025 for a tour of the exciting Poplar Island project in the Chesapeake Bay!  All the information you’ll need to know and how to register are below and in the attached flyer.

Formally known as the “Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island,” the Poplar Island project site is an international model for the beneficial use of dredged material. A partnership between the US Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Port Administration, and Maryland Environmental Service, the project uses dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. Join us for a tour of this remarkable project!

Key administrative information:

1. The tour is operated by the Maryland Environmental Service and is limited to 24 participants. Advanced registration is required.
