Please join SAME Chesapeake on October 30, 2025 for a tour of the exciting Rock Quarry & Rock Crushing Tour!  All the information you’ll need to know and how to register are below and in the attached flyer.

Formally known as the “Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island,” the Poplar Island project site is an international model for the beneficial use of dredged material. A partnership between the US Army Corps of Engineers, Maryland Port Administration, and Maryland Environmental Service, the project uses dredged material collected from the approach channels to the Baltimore Harbor to restore lost remote island habitat within the Chesapeake Bay. Join us for a tour of this remarkable project!

Key administrative information:

Aggregate has been used as a construction material since the dawn of time, although the means by which it is produced have changed. Here is your chance to “peak behind the curtain” and see a modern quarry and rock crushing plant in action. Come see how York Building Products Company produces graded aggregate and rip rap for the regional construction market.

Please wear sturdy shoes suitable for wear at a construction site. Hard hats will be required. Please bring your own if you have one; otherwise, one will be provided for you.
