Presenters: Sarah Jordan

Skuld, named after the Norse goddess of the future, is a rapidly growing startup based in Piqua, Ohio. Founded by two metallurgical engineers, the company specializes in casting, additive manufacturing, and the development of more efficient manufacturing processes. This presentation will provide an overview of Skuld’s core technologies with particular relevance to military engineers. A key focus will be Skuld’s Thin-Walled Ductile Iron (TWDI) technology, which enables significant lightweighting without sacrificing strength. The talk will also highlight the application of TWDI in a gap-crossing system developed for the U.S. Marine Corps. Now branded BIFROST™ (Bridge Infrastructure for Rapid Operational Support & Transport), this portable, manually assembled system is currently being prototyped under a Phase II SBIR effort.

Speaker’s Biography: Sarah Jordan has 30 years experience in metals manufacturing. She is the CEO of Skuld a rapidly growing startup company focused on casting, additive manufacturing and metals innovations. She has degrees in metallurgical engineering and materials science & engineering from Ohio State University, an MBA from Carnegie Mellon, and is finishing up her PhD in manufacturing engineering at WPI. She recently completed a 2 year Innovation Crossroads, a Department of Energy Lab Embedded Entrepreneur Program (LEEP) program at Oak Ridge National Lab. She is highly active in the America Makes Process Working Group.
