Taking Climate Action

The drivers for climate action are mounting. The SEC and European Union have issued rules for greenhouse gas and financial risk-related climate reporting. Many companies now include their suppliers in ESG initiatives. The Federal Sustainability Plan drives Federal Agencies toward net-zero and climate resilient operations. Where are you on your journey?

We’ve invited two entities from the private sector and government to talk about their climate planning and action process.

  1. (speaker confirmed) altafiber’s sustainability vision is to connect people, free from waste or pollution, enhancing environmental quality and health in our communities. In 2021, they jump-started their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas and carbon emissions within our community and as a company. In 2022, they developed a unique climate action plan and set a science-based target to reduce emissions 40% by 2030. Hear from altafiber Sustainability Director, Nadja Turek, on progress and lessons learned from the 2.5 year process.
  2. (speaker invited, not yet confirmed) The City of Dayton’s Office of Sustainability oversees a comprehensive Sustainability strategy aimed at steering the City of Dayton towards greater environmental sustainability. The City started its greenhouse gas inventory in 2019, formed a Climate Strategy in 2020 and declared a Climate Emergency in 2021. It’s recently partnered with SOPEC to fund public EV charging, and Dayton was chosen by Bloomberg Philanthropies to join a three-year initiative designed to dramatically expand efforts to build a low-carbon, resilient, and economically thriving community. Hear from the City’s Energy Manager about their journey, progress and actions.
