ProgramRobotics+Virtual Infrastructure for Improving Healthcare Operations

In an effort to map the domestic water systems of VA facilities to mitigate the potential for legionella infection among patients and visitors, USACE is administering a nationwide BIM for Water Safety Program. Under two separate contracts, AECOM-Garver Kansas City Design Services Joint Venture has provided scan-to-BIM services for six VA Medical Center Campuses in the VISN 15 Heartland Network. In order to collect data in spaces of the hospitals that are difficult to access by humans, the Digital Practice & Technology group of AECOM designed, fabricated, programmed, and deployed a robot as part of its MARCUP Robotics Program. Using reality capture technology, the data is used to develop 3D models of the architecture, interiors, and domestic water piping to identify dead legs and provide as-built BIM data for VA use.
