LOCATION: HOPE HOTEL AND RICHARD C. HOLBROOKE CONFERENCE CENTER

Program: Underground BIM (Subsurface Information Models)

Presenters: Jim Slusher, P.E., UES

Join us for a discussion on Subsurface Information Models (SIM)—the inverse of BIM—which create digital replicas of below-ground utilities, voids, and bedrock surveyed from above grade. In this session, we will explore how to integrate SIM into BIM workflows to enable total asset modeling and analyze clashes before construction begins. We will also highlight key operational benefits, including reduced soft-digging, avoidance of utility strikes and shutdowns, lowered overall construction risk, and improved site safety and profitability.

Speaker’s Biography: Jim is the founder and leader of Universal Engineering Sciences’ (UES) Virtual Design Consulting group specializing in integrated Subsurface and Building Information Models (SIM/BIM). His team uses advanced geophysical techniques, surveying, laser scanning, and 3D modeling to combine valuable underground information with BIM creating more complete and accurate design models. They assist with creating digital-twin frameworks that allow IoT, AI, machine and deep learning components to be integrated for an immersive total asset experience. Their services include subsurface utility engineering, mapping, and information modeling (SUE/SUM/SIM). Industrial underground mapping, as-built/post-built drawing creation, 3D laser scanning, clash detection, geotechnical risk assessment, subsurface environmental investigation, structures evaluation, and various other smart city/plant solutions involving mixed reality (AR/VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technology integration.
