U.S. Botanic Garden Production Facility Open House Tour

Rarely does the public get to see the Garden’s growing facility – 85,000 square feet under glass divided into 34 greenhouse bays and 17 environmental zones. Come see the facility and the many thousands of plants we grow there! You’ll see USBG collection plants not currently on display, including orchids, medicinal plants, carnivorous plants, rare and endangered species, and more. Register for one of the open house times to meet our gardeners, ask questions, and wander through this working wonderland of plants.

Please note: Tickets for the event are free, allow entry anytime between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and do not include parking. If you require parking for the event, choose the parking add-on during registration and select from the available parking entry times. Due to limited parking capacity, those without a parking pass will not be able to park.  There is a $25 charge for parking. Only the driver of a vehicle needs a parking add-on. If you do not require parking, you should anticipate arriving via public transit, bicycle, rideshare, or on foot.

Steeped in history, the U.S. Botanic Garden is a living plant museum that informs visitors about the importance, and often irreplaceable value, of plants to people and Earth’s ecosystems.

More than 200 years ago, George Washington had a vision for the capital city of the United States that included a botanic garden to demonstrate and promote the importance of plants to the young nation. The U.S. Botanic Garden fulfills that vision. Established by the U.S. Congress in 1820, the Garden is an independent federal agency in the legislative branch and has been administered through the Architect of the Capitol since 1934. It is the oldest continuously operating public garden in the United States.

Today the Garden directly serves the U.S. Congress and more than one million visitors per year. We strive to be a global leader in botanic garden excellence.
