The Washington DC Post K-12 Outreach Committee organizes programs that promote engineering, science and technology to K-12 students. Examples of our K-12 outreach programs include:

Membership

Located in our Nation’s Capital, the Washington DC Post is the largest SAME Post (chapter) in the society with over 1,800 members, including over 180 sustaining member companies and public agencies. Our Membership Committee communicates regularly with our members to ensure their needs are met. They also provide guidance to anyone interested in joining in SAME.

Emergency Preparedness & Infrastructure Resilience Committee (EPIRC)

The SAME Washington DC Post’s Emergency Preparedness & Infrastructure Resilience Committee (EPIRC) is focused on creating programs focused on enhancing infrastructure resilience related to water, cybersecurity, energy and other assets critical to our nation. They engage with federal, state and local government stakeholders to assist with disaster responses and emergency preparedness, including establishing relationships between these agencies with our member companies and local universities who can provide support in such efforts.

Registry of Emergency and Incident Response Engineering and Construction Firms

The Washington DC Post established a registry of Sustaining Member firms willing to support local and national agencies that may require Emergency Preparedness and Incident Response (EPIR) services. Our Sustaining Members are strategically positioned to assist government agencies prepare for, deal with and recover from emergencies. View the registry.

Young Members Committee

The SAME Washington DC Post Young Members (YM) Committee organizes opportunities for our YMs to engage with each other, industry leaders, and the community. They plan volunteer opportunities, social events, project tours, educational programs, etc. All of the Post’s upcoming YM Programs can be found on our calendar or announcements pages.

Small Business Committee

The Washington DC Post Small Business Committee was established to increase small business membership, participation, and leadership within the Post, and to enhance Post programs to include topics focused towards small businesses. The committee includes representatives from small business, large business, and government. A Small Business Conference is held annually, usually co-hosted with the Northern Virginia Post. Leadership & Mentoring Program

Now Accepting Applications for SAME DC/NoVa/Mid-Maryland Post’s 2021 Leadership & Mentoring Program.

All SAME Young Members are invited to apply for the 2021 Leadership and Mentoring Program sponsored by the Northern Virginia (NOVA) and Washington DC (DC) Posts. This will be the sixth year of the program and the first year it will be a joint NoVa/DC/Mid-Maryland program.

The program is a unique opportunity for Young Members, Junior Officers, and NCOs to be mentored by SAME Fellows and senior leaders from government and private sector while developing their leadership skills through focused educational sessions. The program includes monthly meetings with these industry leaders to discuss various topics regarding leadership and professional growth. Up to 10 applicants will be selected to participate in the program and can earn up to 20 PDHs over the course of the year.

Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee Director

The SAME Washington DC Post’s Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee plans the Post’s annual golf tournament at the beautiful Courses at Andrews Air Force Base every spring. The tournament raises funds for scholarships the DC Post awards every year to deserving engineering and architecture students from area universities. Every year, the DC Post awards twelve scholarships for $3,000. The tournament date is usually established around February. Please check back for more details on a later date.

Investments Committee

The Washington DC Post Investment Committee manages the funds raised for purposes of providing scholarships. The committee established a financial plan with long-term goals and a strategy for implementing their plan. The Investment Committee Director reports to the Board of Directors monthly on the status of the Post’s investments and works closely with the Scholarships Committee on cash flow and budgeting the funds for the scholarship program.
