Honolulu Post Outreach

2026 District Science Fairs

2026 HSSEF was a success! This event was the culminating event where  top students across the islands competed at their schools and in their districts to advance to today’s state fair.  Eight SAME Honolulu Post members spent their morning judging over 60 STEM projects in two categories, Junior (Grades 6-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12). The top 2 senior projects were awarded a $150 gift card each and the top 4 junior projects, $50 gift cards. Thank you to our Post members for volunteering your time to support Hawaii’s future STEM professionals.

2026 Hawaii SAME STEM/Engineering & Construction Camp

SAME Honolulu Post is excited to support the 2026 Hawaii SAME STEM/Engineering & Construction Camp, which will be held June 7–13, 2026 at Camp Paumalu on Oahu.

The SAME STEM Camps Program 2026 student applications are now open and will remain open through March 11, 2026.
View the SAME STEM/Engineering & Construction Camps webpage.

In addition, mentor applications are now open and will close on April 3, 2026.
View the SAME Camps – Mentors & Staff.

Camp Program Overview

40 Campers will be divided into four squads, each supported by mentors representing the U.S. Air Force, Coast Guard, Army, and Navy. Throughout the week, squads will compete in hands-on STEM and engineering challenges designed to foster teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Who will come out on top?

We are seeking assistance with authorization and coordination to bring military vehicles to camp, both to educate students about what our service members do and to support a tug-of-war activity during the Seabee Olympics.

Draft Schedule Highlights

  • June 7: Welcoming students at the airport and camp facility; building rockets
  • June 8: Concrete pour service project giving back to the Girl Scout facility; ocean engineering activity
  • June 9: Orienteering exercise, nail relay, and bridge-building competition
  • June 10: Field trip to Pearl Harbor and Sunset Beach
  • June 11: Boat building and racing; pump activity to move water uphill
  • June 12: Testing concrete slabs and bridges built by each squad; Seabee Olympics
  • June 13: Sending campers home

We also request assistance with gaining access to the USO lounge at the airport, where students can gather safely upon arrival and departure.

Mentor & Leadership Support Needed

For the 2026 Hawaii STEM Camp, we are seeking:

  • Honolulu-based Mentor Lead who can attend camp for the full week, serve as the primary point of contact for approximately 16 mentors, and step in when mentors encounter student behaviors they may not know how to address.
  • Support with brainstorming, coordinating, and organizing the June 10, 2026 field trip to Pearl Harbor, including assistance with purchasing MREs from the NEX for student lunches that day.

Sponsorship Opportunities

We are also offering the following camp sponsorship opportunities to support program activities and student experiences. Sponsors may coordinate payment with our new treasurer, Jim Hoyman (jim.hoyman@woolpert.com), who will deposit funds directly into the camp account. Jim can also provide nonprofit documentation for tax purposes upon request.

  • Bronze – $750: Invitation to participate in one STEM activity
  • Silver – $999: Invitation to participate in one STEM activity plus company swag provided to campers
  • Gold – $1,500: Silver-level benefits plus logo on key STEM activity and scenario naming rights

The Hawaii STEM Camp provides students with hands-on exposure to STEM, engineering, and construction careers while connecting them with professionals who serve as mentors and role models. Support from the Honolulu Post and local sponsors is critical to the success of this program and to inspiring Hawaii’s future engineers and scientists.
