Welcome to the Scott Field Post
Dedicated to Our Nation’s Defense
Welcome to a very exciting year for The Society of American Military Engineers and the Scott Field Post. I hope you take an opportunity to be a part of a group that share important core principals, love the freedom that we enjoy, work together to benefit our community and industry, and provide educational and networking opportunities for our members. 2020 is the Centennial Celebration of the Society! Make sure you check out events and communications on both the National and Scott Field Post websites.
There are four events this year that I would like to highlight. This spring we will be involved with an Industry Day conference – this is an awesome opportunity to fellowship and learn from other professionals that provide science and engineering solutions. The Friday after Industry Day is our annual golf outing to support scholarships for students going into science and engineering fields. The STEM summer camp will be held at the base again this year. This is an amazing local opportunity to support a camp experience for high school students from all over the country. If you can help by volunteering for this event you contribute to a student’s continued growth. Finally each November we support a Veteran event, this year Missouri Patriot Paws. Over the past four years our Trivia Night has continued to grow. This year we will be hosting at the St. Louis Engineering Center, please watch for registration communications as this sells out fast.
We are a society of professionals; architects, engineers, scientists, builders, entrepreneurs, public servants, and service members. We are members that are current and former active military personnel and professional members that do not have military experience. If you are wondering why an individual who is not serving in the military would want to join this organization let me sum that up in one simple phrase – The military discipline to problem solving and resourcefulness is an important skill that we all need to perfect to advance our profession. Personally I have met individuals who have helped me develop skills that I use in my engineering position every day. You have to get involved to make a difference!
Thank you again for all that you do to serve our great Nation and make our Post successful. Without the efforts of each of you, we cannot be successful. If you have been on the fringe, or thinking about joining but haven’t made that move yet, this is a great time to get involved. I promise that you will meet some amazing people, be challenged to rethink how we take on challenges, and be inspired by sharing experiences from those that have served our country and are leaders in the sciences professions. I should normally close by saying that I hope to see you at one of our events, but this year I hope to see you actively involved in a committee serving at an event.
