The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.

Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.

The Philadelphia Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Philadelphia Post membership.

We would like to highlight Gordon Araujo as our member spotlight. Gordon has been with SAME for over a decade. He currently serves on several committees, Communications (Chair),  Membership,  and Small Business. He is an important asset and the driving force behind  improving the efficiency of our post. He has launched our new website and furthered our on-line presence through the use of social media. In addition to SAME, Gordon volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America where he provides leadership and guidance to their membership.  Thank you Gordon for everything you do for the Philly Post!

Founded in 1920, SAME is the premier professional association uniting public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the environmental, architecture, engineering, construction, technology, facility management, contracting and acquisition disciplines in support of national security. For almost 100 years, SAME members have been at the forefront of our nation’s greatest engineering achievements. Today, SAME members continue to solve 21st Century challenges, including energy and environmental sustainability, global stability, the war on terror, cyber security, and resilience against the effects of natural and man-made disasters. SAME, as it approaches its 100th anniversary in 2020, has grown alongside its members. The organization now offers extensive opportunities for training, education, and professional growth through conferences, workshops, networking events, webinars, technical publications, leadership development and strategic partnerships, including now with IGEL — The Wharton-led, Penn-wide Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL). The SAME Philadelphia Post and IGEL have partnered to promote knowledge, discussion, and business practices for business sustainability. Together, we are offering further collaboration to support our collective missions for energy and environmental stability across the globe.
