The Society of American Military Engineers is fully committed to promoting a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in all that we do.

As a professional organization, our unwavering standard is that all individuals feel valued and respected regardless of gender, race, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation, education, disability, veteran status, or other dimension of diversity.

Together, we will achieve that commitment and standard through our DEI Operational Plan, driven by our vision to make lasting impacts on the Society and the future of the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) profession.

The DEI Sub-Committee (DEISC) is working with several more organizations, but they are still in progress. We’d like to add the logo of each association as the agreements are finalized.

DEI Current Initiatives and Activities

  • AI/AN LDP project – Funded by a UEF grant, the project is now being executed by SAME Posts, supported by the Foundation and the Society at large.  Supported by our first ever external grant and signals a very important first step in operationalizing LDP Class projects.  In this case, the LDP team identified a need and recognized that traditional outreach doesn’t work, hence the title of the project “You have to go to them.” Success will be measured by an increase in AN and NA youth pursuing careers as AEC professionals.
  • Post level activities that are touching DEI - We should definitely announce any DEI related activities/events hosted by the Posts
