Baltimore Post: PFAS Progress- Science, Policy, and Practical Strategies

Morgan State University, Scheffer Engineering Building

Join the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) for an engaging technical program hosted at Morgan State University in conjunction with our Student Post.

This engaging technical program is focused on emerging research, regulatory updates, and practical solutions related to PFAS (per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances). This session brings together experts from state agencies, federal research institutions, academia, and industry to share the latest findings and strategies for addressing PFAS challenges in environmental and infrastructure projects.

The event begins with registration and networking, followed by opening remarks and a series of targeted presentations. Attendees will hear updates from the Maryland Department of the Environment (invited), learn about recent PFAS studies from the U.S. Geological Survey, and gain insight into Morgan State University’s ongoing research and laboratory capabilities. The program concludes with a discussion from EA on scalable, real‑world approaches to PFAS site management.

Designed for engineers, scientists, program managers, and students, this event offers valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and professional engagement.

Speakers include:

Introduction to PFAS: Andrew Psoras, Lead Chemist, USGS Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Water Science Center

Maryland efforts to address PFAS:  Zachary Schafer, Maryland Assistant Secretary of Environment

Morgan State’s Growing PFAS Capability:  MSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
