This webinar shares practices which are proven to provide successful outcomes on Garrison (fixed) microgrid projects for the Department of Defense (Department of War). Based on real-world expertise, the presenter will discuss various perspectives including that of supplier, integrator, microgrid owner, and specifier.

This webinar will cover topics based on professional experience including specifying, designing, installing, integrating, and testing microgrid control and protection systems. This includes the process of evaluating a jobsite for a microgrid, detailed design requirements, design elements that should be left for suppliers, factory testing requirements, site acceptance testing requirements, and a proven project execution process that delivers quality solutions and delights customers.

The discussion will also cover technology requirements, interactions with utilities, control strategies, standard adherence, cyber-security, and equipment protection. Proper timing and use of subject matter experts in the life-cycle of a microgrid development and practices that deliver the highest customer value through cost reduction and performance improvement will be explained. Results from several projects will be shared as examples.

Scott Manson received his M.S.E.E. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and his B.S.E.E. from Washington State University. Scott is a Fellow Engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), Inc. Scott is a registered professional engineer in six states and holds 34 patents.
