JETC Listening Sessions
The application is closed.
As part of SAME’s Joint Engineer Training Conference in San Antonio, SAME is facilitating Listening Sessions with a couple government agencies. The purpose of these sessions if for the Service/Agency Engineering Chiefs to hear directly from senior industry representatives their perspectives on various topics noted below. This is industry’s opportunity to engage with the Service/Agency Engineering Chiefs and for industry to share best practices, success stories, what is working and what isn’t, etc. and suggest ways the services/agencies can better work with industry.
These sessions are first-come, first-served events with the agency chiefs or their designee and accompanying staff members. The number of industry participants will be limited to no more than 10. The following agencies are holding Listening Sessions along with the agency representative, date and time of the session and topics of interest as provided by the agency:

Date: Thursday, May 4, 2023 | Time: 2:00 – 3:30 PM CDT
Topics:
- Market escalation: What are you seeing as trends in VA construction projects as opposed to other agencies?
- What hurdles or difficulties are you having with project locations, subcontracting/partnering, or specific VA medical centers?
- Are there compliance issues with the Build America / Buy American acts?
Air Force Director of Civil Engineers:
Agency Representative(s):
Brig. Gen. Brian Hartless, USAF, Air Force Director of Civil Engineers
Date: Thursday, May 4, 2023 | Time: 2:00 – 3:30 PM CDT
Topic: Resiliency in Design and Construction
Resilience means a lot of things to different people and organizations. In this case, it’s about being able to minimize and mitigate impacts to mission from natural or human activities, including weather and climate, loss of key energy supplies (gas, oil, water, electricity), cyber-attack, kinetic attack, or anything else that puts mission at risk. The Air Force is focused on resilience for our facilities and processes, but it seems to come at a cost where we pay a premium for these attributes.
What is industry doing to normalize resilience into their designs and considerations?
Are industry partners seeing the same in the commercial or state/local government sectors?
How can we better signal our requirements for resilient facilities and infrastructure?
What barriers has the Air Force put in place that makes this difficult for industry partners?
If you are chosen, you will receive logistical information to attend. Attendees must be Presidents, CEOs, Vice Presidents, or equivalent executive level to qualify. Substitutions requests should be submitted to the SAME POC below and must be approved prior to attendance.
Government participation is coordinated by SAME. Attendees must be registered for JETC. Questions should be directed to the Director of IGE & Programs, SAME – Rob Biedermann.
Submission Deadline: Monday, April 24, 2023 by 12:00 p.m. PDT.
